Lura Helen Pinkerton Hart passed away June 28, 2006. She was born December 15, 1919 in Halfway, Texas. Her parents were William Ward Pinkerton and Lura Kayser Pinkerton.

She graduated from Plainview High School in 1937. Helen attended Wayland Baptist College where she played basketball for the Queen Bees. Later she attended Texas Tech University.

During World War ll, she lived in Washington D.C. and worked for the USO, arranging travel for entertainers to visit U.S. troops.

While visiting the Lower Rio Grande Valley, she met John W. Hart at a dance where John was playing his tuba. Helen and John were married April 17, 1949, in Halfway, Texas. They remained happily married for 47 years. Helen and John made their home in Sharyland, Texas, and were blessed with three wonderful children. Both Helen and John spent their careers as school teachers, educating children for more than 30 years. Upon retirement, they traveled throughout the United States and southern Canada.


Helen was preceded in death by husband. John, her parents, and eight brothers. She is survived by daughter, Helen Frances McKinney (Bill) of Las Cruces, N.M.; son, John Cecil Hart (Barbara) of Linn, Texas; and daughter Betty Ann Skloss (Ernest) of Mission, Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren Michael Hart (Alicia), Melissa Brewster (Jim), Stewart Skloss, Megan McKinney, Sarah Skloss, and Kate McKinney.

The family would like to acknowledge Yolanda Ramirez and Rosie Torres for the loving care they provided for Helen in her later years.

Helen was a lifetime member of the Texas Cooperative Extension Organization, Busy Bees and the McAllen Oldtimers Association, She also greatly supported the youth of the Hidalgo County 4-H.

There was a visitation on Friday, June 30, at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home.

The funeral was Saturday, July 1, 2006, at 10 a.m.
Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, Texas.
