Dad will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Charles and Louise began their married life together in Houston, TX. He graduated high school at Aldine, TX and attended Rice University at night while working at Blume System as a book keeper, following his service in the Air Force during WWII, he and 4 partners left Blume and started Trees of Houston. In 1969, he became sole owner and grew the business to 800 employees with crews working throughout the state of Texas. Dad retired from Trees, Inc. (sort of) in 1992, but maintained close relationship with many of his business contacts. He was an active member of the Lions Club, holding all offices. He was very involved in local politics serving as a delegate at the State of Texas convention. He also served as a deacon in the church, and was a dedicated contributor to Boys and Girls Country. He always had strong entrepreneurial skills even at a young age when he bought pregnant hogs just to sell the offspring. His greatest passion was quail hunting, but he truly loved to fish and golf, as well. He was extremely competitive at everything he chose to do. Charles and Louise travelled the world, pursuing their dreams of golfing and fishing and many other favorite activities. They fished in New Zealand, Alaska, Colorado and New Mexico and golfed some of the most storied golf courses in the world. They retired to Long Overdue Ranch, in Carrizo Springs, TX and it was a close to heaven as Dad thought he was going to get, as he realized a lifelong dream of owning his own ranch. They entertained friends and family at the ranch for many years hosting a couple's weekend with dear friends from across the state. Dad continued to host hunting and fishing outings right up until his last days.
A celebration of Charles' Life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Jersey Village Baptist Church, 16518 Jersey Drive, Houston, TX. Graveside service and committal will be private. The family would like to recognize and thank Juanita Romo and her family for the very special care that they provided for Dad, over the last 20 years, particularly this last year. They are a very special part of our family. We also want to thank Arturo Romo for dedicated service to the Long Overdue Ranch and being there whenever Dad need his help. Dad could not have live out his life at the ranch that he truly loved had it not been for all of the Romo family's care, support and love. We are all grateful for that. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Boys and Girls Country, 18806 Roberts Rd., Hockley, TX 77447.
