Robert S. Ayers, one of the oldest citizens of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday morning about two o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John A. McLin, on west Delaware street. He had suffered a stroke of paralysis last Thursday, but was conscious to the last day of his life. He was 87 years of age last November. For the past sixteen years of his life he had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. McLin. He leaves four daughters and one son: Mrs. Stella, wife of John A. McLin; Mrs. Wilmoth, widow of the late Solon P. Hill of Guymon, Okla.; Mrs. Orilla, wife of J. H. Lewis, of Bridgeport, Ill.; Mrs. Jessie, wife of J. H. Monroe, of Bowie, Texas, and Prof. Granville T. Ayers, of Guymon, Okla.
Mr. Ayers frequently visited at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S. P. Hill, during her residence in Flora.
Mrs. Hill and Prof. G. T. Hill of Guymon, Okla., and Mrs. J. H. Lewis of Bridgeport, were present at the funeral, which was held at the McLin home in Fairfield last Friday.
