Alexander Frederick "Sandy" MacDonald Jr., 68, died at his home surrounded by family on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Portsmouth on July 27, 1937, the son to Alexander Sr. "Sandy" and Helen (Spinney) MacDonald.

He graduated Eliot High School in 1954, attended Leland Powers School of Radio & TV and the University of New Hampshire, and was a 1974 graduate of the Amos Tuck School of Business.

He worked for many years at WTSN in Dover, then WEEI in Boston, before owning and operating many small businesses in the Upper Valley, including the Ascutney Forge.

He was a member and past president (1989) of the Claremont Kiwanis Club. He loved his family, his animals, and a good joke, and had a quick witty remark for all occasions.
