She was the daughter of James Alton Bateman and Dollee Antrim Bateman. Her obituaries follow:

Joyce Sweeton, age 38, of 100 Meadowood Lane, Winchester, died Tuesday, December 8 at Methodist Hospital in Winchester. A native of Coffee County, she was the daughter of James Alton Bateman and Dollee Antrim Bateman, and was presently unemployed. She is survived by her daughter, Shana Dollee Bateman of Winchester; four brothers, Joe West of Winchester, Jerry West of Shelbyville, John William Johnson, U. S. Navy, and James Bateman of Indianapolis, Indiana; five half-brothers, Wayne Pruitt, Ricky Pruitt, and Ronnie Pruitt, all of Shelbyville, David West and Randy West, both of Muncie, Indiana; and her father, James Alton Bateman of Alexandria, Indiana. Funeral services were held Friday, December 11, at 1 p.m. from Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. Willard Basham officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Gardens.

Joyce Sweeton, 38, Winchester, Tenn., died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in that city. She was born Sept. 30, 1954 in Coffee County, Tenn. Survivors include; a daughter, Shana Oollee Bateman of Winchester, Tenn.; her father, James Alton Bateman of Alexandria; four brothers, Joe West of Winchester, Tenn., Jerry West of Shelbyville, Tenn, John William Johnson, serving with the U.S. Navy and James Bateman of Indianapolis; five half brothers, David West and Randy West, both of Muncie, and Wayne, . Risky and Ronnie Pruitt, all of Shelbyville, Tenn. Services were today at the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Rev. William Basham officiating. Burial followed at Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester, Tenn.
