According to books, newspaper archives, family photos and other resources found, Arthur Lewis led an interesting life. Sometime after college at Ohio Wesleyan University, he returned to St. Paul, Nebraska where he was the publisher of the newspaper-The Phonograph. He married Susan B. Scott in 1879; she died in 1883. Following her death, he married Lena Culley and was editor of the Greeley Tribune. Per the Lincoln County Tribune, after swindling a few friends, he skipped out of the area. His next adventure found him living in Chicago and starting a mining business. With a group of investors, he formed and was President of the Imperial Copper Mining, Royal Gold and Copper Mining Co, and others. In the early 1900's, he was a pioneer in the Utah mining industry and, being the risk taker he appeared to be, became a successful businessman. A.B. lived in Utah while his wife Lena continued to live in Chicago. She died in 1903. He remarried the same year, Belle M (still researching to be sure that was her legal name). He served a few years as a Utah State Senator of the Eleventh District for Beaver County between the years 1903-1907. According to various newspaper articles, A.B. continued to try and secure investors for his various mining companies however he ran into some difficulties. He traveled between Utah, New York and Chicago. An article dated October, 1907, in the Washington Post states his wife, Belle, owned the handsome Lewisanna farm on the Rappahannock River. The article seems to indicate she lived in Fredericksburg, VA and he lived in New York City. He lost heavily in the stock market and, together, he and Belle appear to have lost their fortune. Many suits were brought against him for money problems including mining swindles. She went to Los Angeles, CA, some time around 1910 with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Ewing. According to 1914 records, Arthur was living in Utah trying to make a new start in the mining industry. From the New York Municipal Death database, Arthur Lewis died May 14, 1941 in Manhattan, New York, New York.
