Eugene A. Schweitzer, 71, of 703 E. Benton St., Wapakoneta, died at 3:03 P.M. Wednesday, April 5, 1989, in Lima Memorial Hospital during surgery following an automobile accident on U.S. 33 between Wapakoneta and St. Johns. The accident occurred Wednesday morning.
Mr. Schweitzer was born July 12, 1917, in Wapakoneta, the son of Alexander and Frances (Etgen) Schweitzer. On June 7, 1941, he married Marjory G. Woodworth, who preceded him in death December 16, 1987.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Margene) Paige of Presho, SD; one son, James Schweitzer of Greenbrier, Tenn.; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Norma Barrett of Lima; and one brother, Edgar Schweitzer of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by one son, Harold, who died in 1977.
Mr. Schweitzer was employed for the Ohio State Highway Department from which he retired in 1983. He had earlier worked fro Lima Radio Parts for more than 20 years.
A member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mr. Schweitzer also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 691 of which he was past president, Brands Lake fishing Club and the Auglaize Fishing Club, both of Wapakoneta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta, with Rev. John J. Franck, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
