Augustus Burt was the son of Captain Joseph Burt(1738-1821) and his wife the widow Ruth Warner{Howe}(1742-1813)
He was admitted in Franklin County as an attorney in the county and supreme courts of Vermont. He was several times elected state's attorney for Franklin county; was a judge of the Franklin county court for many years; was one of the council of censors, a body consisting of 13 members, required at that time by the constitution to be elected once every seven years. He retired from professional work at the age of 70.
