Edward C. Couts Sr., 86, of 935 Allison Avenue, Washington, died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 9, 1981, in Washington Hospital Extended Care Facility. He had been seriously ill for four months.

Mr. Couts was born June 3, 1894, in Carnegie, a son of Thomas J. and Rebecca Brundage Couts.

Mr. Couts was a Protestant. During World War I he served in the U. S. Army. He belonged to Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post No. 175. He worked for many years at Tyler Tube and Pipe Co. until it closed. After that, he worked for 27 years for Tygart Valley Glass Co., retiring in 1959.

On December 24, 1917, in Wellsburg, W. Va., he married Florence Mossburg, who died October 10, 1946.

Surviving are a son, Edward C. Couts Jr., of Washington R.D. 5; a daughter, Clementine A., wife of Eugene Wisnosky of Washington with whom he made his home; a sister, Violet I. Sheppard of Washington; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A son, Arthur R. Couts, died April 5, 1964. Another son, James Couts, died April 7, 1930. Three brothers, Samuel A., William T. and Amber C. Couts, are deceased.
