Earl D. Chaplin, 78, 1511 Overdene Ave., who was born in Mattoon and lived since 1952 in Rockford, died Friday in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

He worked as a forklift operator for Amerock for nine years, retiring in 1973.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the railroad operator battalion.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, with burial in Scandinavian Cemetery


CHAPLIN – Earl D. Chaplin, 78, 1511 Overdene Ave., died at 3:17 a.m. Friday, June 30, 1989, in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a long illness.  Born Jan. 5, 1911, in Mattoon, son of Charles and Mattie Chaplin.  Lived since 1952 in Rockford, coming from Mattoon.  Married Neva Bordon in St. Louis, Mo., May 5, 1943.  Forklift operator for Amerock nine years, retiring in 1973.  Veteran World War II, serving in U.S. Army in railroad operator battalion.  Survivors include his wife, Neva, Rockford; daughter Ellen Russell, Rockford; three sons, Earl Jr., and Charles, Mattoon, and Larry, Chicago; four granddaughters, Robin, Candy, Penny and Vickie; three grandsons, James, Kelly and Brian; three great-grandsons, Richard, Adam and Matthew; two sisters, LaVance and Maude, Springfield; one brother, Eugene Chaplin, Mattoon; several nieces and nephews.

Services at 10 a.m. Monday, July 3, JULIAN-POORMAN-WELTE FUNERAL HOME, 304 N. 5th St., with the Rev. Paul Kingsbury, pastor of North Love Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial in Scandinavia Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.  7-1-3
