Otis was born in Willington, Connecticut, the son of Thomas and Alice Whitmore Anderson. He was married to Emily Anderson. His tombstone birthday says April 20, 1800 but the records in Willinton show him born April 3, 1800. Original cemetery records show his death as June 1, 1894 but newspaper obituary says May 21, 1891.
