Memorial service for Millard Simmons Gardner, 64, Lawton will be at 12:30 PM Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel with Darrell Balmer, elder at Lawton Heritage Hills Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating.

Mr. Gardner passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Lawton.

Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin.

He was born on October 28th 1950, at Reynold's Army Hospital in Fort Sill Oklahoma to John M. and Essie (Simmons) Gardner.

He attended Douglas school from first to the ninth grade. He graduated from Lawton High School in 1968.

After graduating from high school he entered the US Army.

Anyone who knew Millard loved him. He was a fun and exciting individual. He was always full of life and knew how to make you laugh. One of his favorite pastimes was to work on and restore old cars to operable condition. Listening to music of his era was a big highlight of his day. Collecting Lionel trains and replica cars was his favorite hobby. Always enjoyed traveling and fun times with family.

Millard's military career began after high school graduation in 1969 by entering the army. His awards consists of: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Air Assault Badge, Overseas Services Bars (3rd Award), Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2nd Award), Republic Of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Six Service Stars, and the Republic Of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm. Millard Gardner retired as a Staff Sargent from the US Army in 1982.

Shortly after retirement Millard worked at the Lawton Goodyear Tire and Rubber company in the curing department as a trucker for 16 years, retiring in 1998.

He is survived by his four children Maurice, Brian Ross, Marissa (Sean) Bryant, John Mark: and five grandchildren; eight sisters: Isabel M. Gardner, Theresa (Odell Jr.) Gordon, Zelma Gardner, all of Lawton: Floscelia Johnson, Lorton, VA: Reba (Lawrence) Johnson, Olympia, WA: Peggy Smalley, Edmond: Patricia (Marvin) Williams, Richmond, VA: Ava M. Gardner, Denver, CO; three brothers; Timothy A. (Marie) Gardner, Springfield, MO: Winston (Pamela) Gardner, Hephzibah, GA: Paul H. Gardner, Morena, CA; a host of relatives: his beloved Douglas and Lawton High alumni: and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: one brother John M.: two sisters: Gloria Sparrow: and Elsie Hearns.
