Pop's Willow Lake Scene of Sunday Afternoon Tragedy
Alice Semenoff, 12 years old, of 1419 East 71st street, Los Angeles, was drowned while bathing in Pop's Willow Lake, northeast of Van Nuys, shortly after 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Although she was in the water but a few minutes, there was considerable delay, due to lack of telephone facilities in calling the Van Nuys fire department rescue squad and she could not be resuscitated.
The girl had gone to the lake in company with her younger sister, her aunt, Mrs. Anderson, with whom she made her home, and a neighbor of Mrs. Anderson.
According to the report made to police investigators, the sisters were wading on the east side of the lake when Alice stepped into deep water and sank. The sister summoned a guard who began diving for the girl, and located the body in about eleven feet of water.
The body was taken to the Schwimley mortuary and later removed to the county morgue for an autopsy. It will then be taken to Vesper & Son Mortuary, 1930 East First street, for funeral services.
