James “Jim” F. Bailey, 90, of Independence, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015. James was born October 31, 1924, in Kansas City, Kansas, an only child to Patrick and Leona (Hoback) Bailey.

He married Opal D. Bailey on March 17, 1962, in Miami, Oklahoma. He had two daughters, Mary Beth and Sharon Faye. Jim worked for thirty years as a superintendent for Armco Steel before retiring in 1986. He was a catholic, enjoyed fishing, building models of ships and planes even making his wife and each granddaughter a life size dollhouse, bowling, refereeing for basketball games, and traveling to all fifty states. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, serving as secretary of the DAV Thrift Store.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Survivors include daughters: Mary Beth Elmore (Tom) of Independence, MO, and Sharon Sewell of Perry, OK; grandchildren: James R. Sewell of Sayre, OK, Crystal Edgar (Jim) of Perry, OK, Dezra Coulson (Troy) of Blue Springs, and Angela Petree of Oak Grove, MO; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous great great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at 10:00-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Bob Stone officiating. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 2, 8787 Old Santa Fe Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138.
