He was baptized into the RLDS church at an early age. He was one of a family of 10 children. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
With his parents, he moved to Lamoni at the age of 9. His marriage to Vera Beryl Roberts took place at Lamoni, Oct. 23, 1917. He was a machinist and welder in Lamoni until 1929 when he moved to Leon.
As a resident of Leon, he was employed by the late E. L. Cain at the Cain Garage and Machine Shop. In 1947, he was elected sheriff of Decatur county. He served in that capacity for four terms. He was then Leon city assessor for two years. In 1957 he was elected mayor of Leon and served for two terms until 1961.
He and his wife were managers of Hotel Leon for three years during this period. He retired from business in 1961 and devoted his remaining years to traveling. His hobbies were gardening and painting.
Surviving Mr. Midgorden besides his wife, Vera, of 46 years are his four sons: Gene of Chula Vista, Calif.; Cleo, Great Bend, Kan.; Kent, of New Brighton, Minn., and Joe of Ankeny, Iowa. He also leaves the wives of his sons, three grandsons, and eight granddaughters.
Also surviving are a sister, Nellie Midgorden of Lamoni, and a brother L. 0. Midgorden of Denver, Colo. He also leaves a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Aug. 17, 1963, at the Slade Funeral home, Leon, Iowa; Elder Wilber PraII of Lamoni, Iowa conducted the service. Interment was at the Leon cemetery.
