Sylvia Malaby, age 87, of Monett, MO, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 23, 2015 at Bentonview Park Health and Rehabilitation Center in Monett.

Sylvia was born on July 26, 1927 in Cassville, MO, the daughter of the late Garland and Verla Hilburn. As a child, she attended school at Shady Grove School in Butterfield.

Sylvia worked as a machine operator for the garment factory until her retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monett

On May 18, 1963 in Monett, Sylvia married George Malaby. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1984. Sylvia is survived by her sister, Nadine Cox, of Shell Knob, MO; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Louise Tucker and Pauline Phillips.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the Russell Cemetery near Butterfield, MO with Reverend Paul Lanning officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Buchanan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
