Marie Elizabeth Huckried was the daughter of Henry and Mary Huckriede who were both born in Germany. The Huckreides immigrated to the U.S. in 1853, settling in Cincinnati, Ohio. Geerd and Marie were married there in 1854 and began their family in Hamilton County. After Geerd (now called George) died in September of 1886, Marie (Mary) married John Kohlenburg in 1888.

George and Mary were the parents of four children:
Mary Aarnink m. John Frederic Shopmeier
John Franklin Aarnink m. Mary Ann Nolte
Edward Aarnink m. Anna Sonnefield
Martha Aarnink - never married
Family records show that there were three other children born between 1855 and 1865. It is believed they may have died of a cholera outbreak in Cincinnati but we have not found proof to confirm that.
