Following graduation from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1966, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He served most of the time aboard a KC135 tanker, a mid-air refueling plane, over three continents. He served over a year in Vietnam; his final assignment was with the 509th SPS group.
His mother, Sarah Mathews Wiggin, passed away July 12, 2013. His daughter Brooke also predeceased him.
