Mr. Lawrence served as secretary of the Electoral Board of Fauquier County for more than 38 years and was recognized for ensuring a fair election system, which helped secure some great political representation for his beloved Fauquier. He was a proud member of the Republican Party.

His interests were varied and many. He was a licensed real estate agent, notary, served on the board of Peoples National Bank of Warrenton, was a past president and charter member of Loan Oak Recreation Association and served on the board of the Fauquier Historical Society. He also loved organizing reunions of Marshall High School classmates, who have remained an especially close group.

Mr. Lawrence was a Christian and a faithful member of the Marshall United Methodist Church since the age of 12. He loved being its oldest active member. He was a 65 year Ancient Free and Accepted Mason.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maureen Ashby Lawrence; elder son James Lee “Chuck” Lawrence II and his wife Beth, and grandchildren Chace, 6, and Ashby, 4, and his younger son Robert Paul Lawrence and his wife Kim, and grandchild Jack, 2. His survivors also include his younger brother, L.E. “Shorty” Lawrence, and his niece Amy Lawrence Glascock, who was especially close.
