FALLBROOK -- Barbara M. Smith, 75, died Thursday, May 6, 1999, from complications following surgery at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles.

Born March 25, 1924, in Los Angeles, she lived in Fallbrook for 48 years. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from UCLA in 1945, graduating with honors.

She served on the UCLA student council as war board chairman, supervising the sales of war bonds and coordinating Red Cross efforts. She was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She worked as an accountant with Clark W. Smith, CPA. She was a charter member of the Fallbrook Country Club and of Fallbrook Soroptimist Club. She was also a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 53 years, Clark W. Smith of Fallbrook; sons Douglas C. Smith of Fallbrook; Glenn C. Smith of Paris, Texas; Cameron J. Smith of Murphyboro, Ill., and Gordon P. Smith of Annapolis; daughter, Janice S. Rodriguez of Fallbrook; and 20 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Berry-Bell & Hall Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, May 14, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bud Kaicher officiating. Inurnment [stet] is scheduled at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow the services.

Berry-Bell & Hall Mortuary is handling arrangements.
