Charles Wallace “Wally” Gladney
He died at home on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the age of 84. Wally was a Dufrocq Duck, graduated from Sewanee Military Academy in 1947, and LSU in 1951. He served in the US Air Force from 1951 – 1955, had over 500 hours in the F-86 Sabre Jet, and also traveled twice the speed of sound. After serving in the USAF, in 1962 he accepted an offer from E.F. Hutton to become the Branch Manager, and retired as Senior Vice-President of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in 2010 with 54 years of service. Wally was an avid sportsman and golfer with 8 hole-in-ones, a double eagle, Baton Rouge Country Club Champion in 1971, Stockholder Champion in 1972, and Louisiana State Senior Olympian in 1986. He duck hunted at Pecan Island for over 50 years and hunted deer at Rifle Point in Central Louisiana. In 1958 he became the Charter President of the Baton Rouge Exchange Club which later became the Baton Rouge Round Table, Charter member of the Camelot Club, past Associate Vestry Member of St. James Episcopal Church, past board member of the Baton Rouge Country Club, past President and Treasurer of the Gladney’s of America, and served on numerous boards throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; two daughters; a son; step-mother; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents William Beckett Gladney and Ruth Washburn Gladney; a brother, William Washburn Gladney; and sister-in-law, Mary Manship Gladney; his father and mother-in-law Blanche and Hays Town; and his three best friends Raymie Edmonds, Earl Elliott, and Chester Freeman. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (825 Government Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70802) from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. James Episcopal Church (205 N 4th St, Baton Rouge, LA 70801) from 9:00 AM until the Service at 11:00 AM officiated by Father Mark Holland and The Rt. Reverend Robert C. Witcher. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will include Travis Buckingham, Michael Boyle, Barrett Hall, Charles Gladney, III., Darren Kisinger, Robert Shirley, Blane Wilson, Chris Town, and Dr. Will Gladney. Honorary Pallbearers will include Hays Town, Jr., Charles Kahao, Paul Meng, Dr. Clifton Morris, members of the B & B Supper Club, his Poker, Golf, Fishing, and Lunch Groups. Memorial Donations will be appreciated to the St. Elizabeth Foundation (8054 Summa Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70809) or to the charity of your choice.
