According to the Corsicana Semi-Weekly Light, of August 1, 1933, Penn died on Thursday, July 27, 1933, while attending a BBQ in Mexia, Limestone Co. Heart failure.

Son of Mr. And Mrs. Hammett of Oakwood, Texas, where he was born and raised.
Married Miss Violet Bounds of Wortham on August 4, 1917.
Two sons: Penn Bounds Hammett, age 15; and Ray Moore Hammett, age 11.
Since marriage, he spent most of his time in Wortham.
Methodist Church at Oakwood. After moving to Wortham, he joined Methodist Protestant Church at Wortham.
