Dennis was born at the Axtel Christian Hospital, Newton, Harvey County Kansas to Jack and Esther Seibel Carpenter.
Dennis had one sibling, an older sister Judy.
He attended school at Peabody Grade School Marion County Kansas, Shallow Water Grade and High School, Scott County Kansas and NW Kansas Area Vo Tech Goodland, Kansas.
He was drafted into the US Army and served in Vietnam as a MP.
He married Suzie Helen Eberhardt Marquez August 11, 1973 at the Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas, he became the stepfather of David, Elena and Phillip. Dennis and Suzie became the parents of Dennis James in 1974.
Dennis worked for ABC Drilling upon his return from Vietnam and he farmed with his father Jack. After his move to Branson, Missouri he worked for JB Hunt as an over the road truck driver. Health issues with his heart forced him to retire.
Dennis fought many demons from his time in Vietman, and along with his bad health he made the decision to take his own life at his home in Branson. He was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, where he died.
