Marjorie Lattimer, 98, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at home.
She was born May 22, 1917 at Reedy, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Martin and Mary Eunice Butcher Atkinson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Peniel Methodist Church.
Margie is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Lattimer; a daughter, Shirley Lattimer; four sisters: Orpha Ashley, Oshel Atkinson, Ona Board, and Blanche Board; and eight brothers: Ralph, Oma, Walter, Loche, Eugene, Martin Atkinson, Jr., Orda, and Howard.
Margie dedicated her life to the care of her developmentally disabled children. In doing so, she helped to raise the standard of care for the developmentally disabled. Her life exemplified a commitment to the service of those less fortunate and often forgotten. She would say that she was simply a Mother, but those who knew her knew that she was so much more. Her zeal for the care of her children never faded. Her fondest wish was that she survive her children so that she could ensure their welfare. Having done that, the circle is now complete, and she will rest with them in peace.
The family gives special thanks to Margie’s caregivers, Vernie Roman, Teresa Roman, and Carolyn Taylor.
Service will be at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, with Rev. Tim Couch officiating. Burial will follow in the Eventide Cemetery in Spencer. Visiting is two hours prior to the service on Sunday.
