He was the son of Henry Brungart and Elizabeth Zimmerman. David attended schools in Loganton. This early educaion was obtained with great difficulty as for several years he was compelled to walk four miles to the nearest school house. He graduated from the Normal school in Rebersburg. He taught 1st term at Brungard School in Brush Valley. Later, he taught in Clinton county. For a number of years, he was superintendent of Clinton county public schools. He died on a Wednesday afternoon after an illness of several months, of cardia asthma and kidney trouble. His illness began earlier that summer and he had sinking spells, but again recovered sufficiently to be out of the house at times. He was taken to Lock Haven hospital several weeks prior to his death and after treatment improved such that everyone believed he was restored to his usual good health. He was survived by his current (i.e. second) wife and three children: T. Mark Brungard, Edward Given Brungard and Edward Brungard by a former marriage. He is also survived by a son, Eldon Brungart, who is the child from their current marriage. David was affiliated with the First United Evangelical church in Lock Haven, Clinton county, Pennsylvania.

Lock Haven, 1 Nov--Prof. D,M, Brungard, principal of the First Ward Schools, and an educator of note, who is widely known, died at his home on Bald Eagle Street, this afternoon at 2 o'clock, after several months' illness with cardia-asthma & kidney trouble. For a month or more Mr. Brungard had not been in good health, and during the summer, when on his way to the curb market, he was overcome with an attack of asthma. Since the he had been declining & while he improved sufficiently at times to be up, recurring attacks continued to weaken his constitution & for the past 10 days he had been confined to his bed.
On Monday he became unconscious in which condition he remained until the end, except for brief intervals. Mr. Brungard was County Superintendent of schools for 2 terms, was a member of the faculty of the Central State Normal School under Principal Eldon's administration, and during the later years of his life he was principal of the first ward schools.
