Daughter of the late Ira R. and Lessie Joyner Etheridge of Cope, SC, she was the youngest of six children and raised by her aunt and uncle, John E. Etheridge and Anna Gray Etheridge, also of Cope, SC. She was the wife of the late David T. Kizer.
Survivors include her son, David A. Kizer of Inman, SC, his wife, and her treasured granddaughter.
Mrs. Kizer was a 1940 graduate of Cordova High School in Cordova, SC and received her RN degree from the Tri-County Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1944.
She worked as a nurse for many years in Charleston at Riverside Convalescent Home and also took care of many sick family members and friends.
She later resided at Eden Terrace Assisted Living and then White Oak Manor in Spartanburg, SC.
Mrs. Kizer was a long time resident of North Charleston, SC and a very active member of Holmes Avenue Baptist Church. For many years she was over the nursery and was active in Vacation Bible School and Sunday school.
Her biggest pleasure was cooking Sunday dinner for her family. Her fried chicken, French fries and chocolate pound cake were unforgettable.
Julia was a special person who faced the trials that life brought her with strength and a wry sense of humor. She could always be counted on to say or do something funny to lighten the lives of those who knew her. She will be missed.
On Sunday, July 5, a memorial service for her church family was held at Holmes Avenue Baptist Church at 3:30 PM.
A graveside service was at 10:00 am, Monday, July 6, at Indian Field Methodist Church Cemetery in St. George, SC. Bryant Funeral Home & Chapel in St. George handle arrangements.
The family received friends prior to the service at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holmes Avenue Baptist Church, 4602 Durant Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29410.
