Richard Gulden, 79, of New Ulm died Monday, July 6, 2015 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 10, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity In New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery with full military rites being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor.

Visitation will be 4 – 8 PM Thursday and 7:30 – 10 AM Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Richard is survived by his wife, Sharon Gulden of New Ulm; a daughter, Kimberly (Steven) Schmiel of North Mankato; a son, Michael (Nancy) Gulden of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren, Kyle (Shirdi) Schmiel, Chris Gulden, Katie (Nick) Windschitl, Emily (Sam) Rud, Joshua Gulden and Elissa Schmiel ; great grandchildren, Charlie & Mylee; and by his sister, Colleen Zins of New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his brother and sister-in-law, David and Marlene Gulden.

Richard August Gulden was born August 1, 1935 in New Ulm to Hubert and Frieda (Kalz) Gulden. He was a 1953 graduate of Holy Trinity High School. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1960. He was united in marriage to Sharon Corcoran on September 20, 1958 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Richard was employed as a police officer with the New Ulm Police Department from 1960 – 1997, serving as Chief for 28years. He enjoyed coffee with friends, working in his yard and flowers, playing pool, traveling, toy collecting, Indy 500, Minnesota Vikings, and reading. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and listening to his granddaughter Elissa sing.
