There is some question on the middle name of Thomas B. Cantrell born 1852. On most records, he is listed as "Thomas B." However, a varitey of middle names have been recorded:
- A transcript of the Texas County MO marriages 1850-1876 has "Thomas BARNETT Cantrell to Delilah Jones." It would be interesting to review the actual document. Also, his death certificate has the name Thomas BRANISON Cantrell, Jr. (Note, This information was given by James B Cantrell who was the next to the youngest son. Note, he indicated his father was a Jr which usually would suggest he was named for his father.)
- Years after his death a headstone was placed using the name Thomas BARNETT Cantrell. Where did they get the name Barnett from? Was it from the marriage record or another source?
- Thomas BRYANT Cantrell is the named used for the senior Thomas B Cartrell in The Texas County MO Heritage article on the family. Also, the cemetery transcript has his middle name as BRYANT, yet the headstone has only "T B.".
- It was Thomas BRYANT Cantrell according to the story told by John Willie Cantrell, youngest son. John also, referred to his father as Thomas BRYANT Cantrell Jr. His father died in Covert MO and was buried in "Cantrell" cemetery in Covert MO. This story was written by Georgia Elsa Myers, a niece of John Willie. The "Cantrell" cemetery is in Lynch Twp, Texas Co MO which is to the south of Covert. Cemetery record shows a grave marked "Tom Cantrell" but no birth or death date was given. Note, both of Tom's, father & son, are buried in this cemetery. There does not appear to be conclusive proof of the true middle name. This writer will continue to report the name as BRYANT until proof to the contrary is discovered.

BIRTH DATE: The 1900 census of Texas Co MO, household #114 gives age as 48 & birth as JAN 1852. The 1880 census of Texas Co MO, household #135 gives his age as 28. The 1870 census of Texans Co MO, household #87 gives his age as 18. The 1850 census of Union Co GA, household #1059 list the parents of Thomas, but Thomas is not listed as a child. It is presumed he was not born yet.(Family notes of Georgia Elsa Myers gives a birth date of January 14, 1846. The year appears to be computed based on two notes: (1) the Cantrell family came to Mo from NC in the year 1861and (2) Grandpa was 16 when his folks came to MO. The year of relocation to MO appears to be in error. Texas Co MO history, page 275 says the family of Thomas Bryant Cantrell came in the year 1868. The 1868 arrival in MO less the younger Thomas Bryant's age at arrival (16), indicates a birth date of 1852. Therefore, from the above it is presumed the actual birth date is January 14, 1852.)
