Guy Edwin Smyth, 67, of Evansville, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015 in Benton, KY. Guy was born October 3, 1947 in Shawneetown, IL to the late Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Kent) Smyth. In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by an infant brother, Charles Edward Smyth.
Guy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County. He was a 1965 graduate of Shawneetown Illinois High School was a Vietnam Veteran. Guy enjoyed being outdoors, sailing and camping. He also loved home repair projects; nothing was too big or too difficult for him to tackle. He died doing what he loved along with his family on Kentucky Lake.
He was employed as a plumber at Industrial Contractors and retired in 2009. He was currently employed by Mater Dei High School as a maintenance coordinator. He was a member of the German Township Water District Board of Directors.
Guy is survived by his wife of 40 years,
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, 6202 W. St. Joseph Road, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 5:00 P.M. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 A.M. until service time on Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in the county.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. and Mrs. Matt O’Connell who did everything possible to save Guy’s life on the lake.
