Maurice "Reese" Charles Haney II
May 6, 1967 - July 5, 2015

On the morning of July 5, 2015 at 8:48 AM, Reese passed away after a lifelong battle with Type 1 Diabetes; while being attended to by staff members at the Onion Creek Health & Rehabilitation Center in Austin, TX. Reese was 48 years old.

Reese Haney was born in the town of Sewickley, PA, on May 6th, 1967. He was the first child, and the first son, of Patricia Ann Haney and Jerry Brent Haney.

Reese attended Stroudsburg High School in Stroudsburg, PA and graduated in 1985. Following High School Reese attended East Stroudsburg University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History. Reese spent the majority of his career as a registered dietician overseeing nursing facilities in Boston, New York City and Phoenix, Arizona.

Reese was an avid outdoorsmen, musician and family comedian. He was an accomplished trumpet player who also taught himself how to play the guitar and the violin. Reese loved to fish and spent many years' trout fishing in Pennsylvania and Colorado. His love affair with music covered his walls and his bookshelves with records, tapes, and CDs. His connection with animals cannot be forgotten. Reese cared for many animals during his lifetime including; cats, dogs, fish, ferrets, chickens, llamas, goats and cattle. Reese was also an excellent cook who always enjoyed cooking and entertaining.

Reese was passionate about finding a cure for Diabetes. Throughout his life he routinely visited the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Diabetes Center to provide data and undergo tests to help find a cure for other victims of the disease. Reese had a very kind heart and quick wit and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Reese is survived by his parents, Patricia and Jerry Haney of Austin, TX; his son Brent Haney of Strasburg, CO; his brothers and sister-in-laws Matthew and Kate Haney of Abilene, TX and Wilson and Lisa Haney of Austin, TX; his Grandmother Mary Jane Rummings of Clearfield, PA; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or any humane Animal Rescue organization in your area.
