"Caroline A. Crandell, wife of Levin and dau. of Davis & Hannah Packard, April 2, 1830 - Dec. 19, 1876"

"Mrs. Caroline Crandell, wife of Col. Levin Crandell, formerly of this city, now of Brooklyn, died suddenly at her residence last evening. She was a sister of C. D. Packard of this city."
"Personal." Troy Daily Times. December 20, 1876: 3 col 4.

"Col. Levin Crandell, whose death is announced, was a good soldier. From a boy he had the martial instinct, and while still a youth he was elected Captain of a militia company at his own home. Before the war broke out he was Colonel of Troy's regiment of militia, and on Colonel Willard's death at Gettysburg Colonel Crandell, who was then Lieutenant Colonel of the One Hundred and Twenty-fifth Regument of Volunteers, succeeded to the Colonelcy. How well he discharged the duties of that position under the stern test of actual war the respect in which he has always been held by the men of the regiment and by the citizens of Troy is ample testimony. Colonel Crandell frequently attended the reunions of the One Hundred and Twenty-fifth Regument in this city, though that pleasure in later years had been forbidden by increasing physical ailments. A new generation has sprung up since the war, but it shares in the debt of obligation owed by older citizens to the men whose sacrifices on the field of battle filled their fellow citizens with pride and gratitude more than forty years ago. Among these good soldiers none had a braver heart, a more devoted loyalty or a cleaner record than Col. Levin Crandell of the One Hundred and Twenty-fifth New York."
"A Good Soldier." Troy Times. June 17, 1907: 4 col 3.
