Alice G. Balfrey of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Skylyn Place Retirement Community after a brief illness.

A native of North Andover, MA, she was the daughter of the late Edward T. Balfrey and Anna F. (Colbert) Balfrey.

A graduate of Trinity College, Washington, DC, with additional study in Textile Engineering at MIT, Cambridge, MA, she was a retired textile engineer and department manager with Milliken Research Corporation after 38 years of service. She was a member of the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the American Association of Textile Technologists.

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church of Spartanburg since 1958.

She is survived by four nephews, William E. Balfrey and his wife Connie of Moraga, CA, Robert E. Balfrey and his wife Alice of Incline Village, NV, Thomas R. Sullivan and his wife Catherine of Malvern, PA, and Edward B. Sullivan of New York, NY; four grandnephews; two grandnieces; and thirteen great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

She was predeceased by her brother, William E. Balfrey, and her sister, Mary Balfrey Sullivan.

A Rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2006, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel with visitation following until 9:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass was offered by Reverend Michael McCafferty at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2006, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials coould be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 161 North Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to Southern Care Hospice, 1097 Highway 101 South, Suite D-11, Greer, SC 29651.
