Mary Violet, born Alfreda Jane, was the daughter of Madeline Olive McCumby.

Her family were Mormoms, so not sure who her father is. Her one brother Samuel, also aka John Gordon, was born a few years after Mary and his father was a William John Graham, so it's possible that's Mary's father.

Her mother Madeline married William Frederick Spencley in Victoria, BC, Canada in 1900.

Taken from Rogers/Spencley Family Tree Research:

"William Spencley married his wife, Madeline with 3 children. I was never able to trace the father of those children. Mary Violet, Robert Benson and John. They were mormons and in Canada there was a group of people called "the Orange people" who tormented the Mormons. To get away from the 'Orange People', a group crossed over the frozen lake to get from Canada to Michigan in 1900 or 1901. William and Madeline settled in Emmet County and raised 16 children, including her 3 which took the name Spencley"

The family settled in Bliss, Michigan in Emmet County.

She grew up with 15 siblings in a small cabin in Bliss, Michigan.
