Doctor and politician who became an Alabama State Legislator in 1842, and again in 1846. In 1847, he moved to Texas where he continued his political life serving twenty-four years in the Texas Legislature. Taylor served in the House of Representatives in the 3rd Legislature and in the Senate in the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th Legislatures. He was elected President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate twice. Once during the Regular Session of the 5th Legislature and again during the Regular Session of the 7th Legislature. He was a delegate to the Democrat State Convention of 1853 and president of the convention in 1858. He would serve again as delegate to the Democrat State Convention of 1876, 1878, 1880, and 1888; serving as president in the 1880 convention.
