James Everett Atkins, 88, of Lawson, died Wednesday at the Excelsior Springs City Hospital. He was a lifetime Lawson area resident.

Mr. Atkins was a farmer before he retired.

He was a member of the Canaan Hill Church of the Nazarene near Lawson.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I.

He leaves his wife, Tommy Fern Atkins of the home; five sons, J.T. Atkins of Lawson, MO; Floyd Atkins of Gladstone, MO; Allen Atkins of Lawson, MO; John Atkins of Lawson, MO; Marvin Atkins of Shelby, MT; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Rudd of Lawson, MO; Reba Rabe of Phoenix, AZ; and Mrs. Donna Smoot of Excelsior Springs, MO; one half-brother, Don Green of Richmond, MO; two half-sisters, Mrs. Marietta Williams of Lawson, MO; and Mrs. Edna Hartman of Excelsior Springs, MO; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call today at the Jarman Chapel, Lawson. Services will be Saturday at the Canaan Hill Church of the Nazarene; burial in Old Union Cemetery, near Lawson.
