Father of the Polish statesman and military ruler Jozef Klement Pilsudski (1867-1935). Born at Rapszany near Towany (Taujenus), Lithuania. Impoverished by the destruction of his farm at Zulów/ Zalavas by fire (where his children were born) and haunted by financial problems, he spent his last years as salesman an died, far from his family, at St. Petersburg from a heart attack. Buried on Wyborg cemetery, which was liquidated in the 1930's
