Mary Patricia "Pat" Ortland Boucher
May 17, 1931 - July 3, 2015
Resident of Lafayette
Surrounded by members of her family and her loving husband of almost 64 years, Mary Patricia Boucher died quietly and peacefully at her Lafayette home on Friday July 3, 2015. She was 84 years old.
Pat was born on May 17, 1931 to Joseph and Josephine Ortland in Oakland, California. After graduating from Holy Names High School in Oakland in 1949, Pat then attended the University of California at Berkeley. It was in her sophomore year that she met Richard "Dick" Boucher whom she married on September 3, 1951. At the end of her junior year, Pat gave birth to her first child and left college. She inspired her children, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren by her dedication to education by returning to college after having five children and completing her BA degree in child development in 1974. Pat loved working with small children and thrived in her job as pre-school director at Mt. Diablo Parents' Co-op in Walnut Creek, retiring at the age of 77 in 2008. She also loved traveling and gardening.
Pat is survived by her husband, Richard. She is also survived by her five children: Michael Boucher (Debbie) of Mammoth Lakes, CA, Laurie McBride (Monroe) of Ramona, CA, Sherrie Aldinger (Rich) of Pleasant Hill, Jim Boucher (Jackie) of Orinda, and Julie Van Doren of Las Vegas. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Nicole, Courtney, Tyler, Jessica, Spencer, Jane, William, Noelle, AJ and David, and ten great-grandchildren: Erik, Eliza, Laney, Oliver, Clementine, Joshua, Audrey, Annabelle, Violet, and Clark, as well as her brother, Jerry Ortland (Mary) of Alpharetta, GA.
Our family would like to thank the many professionals who, with tremendous patience and kindness, assisted Pat over the past year. In particular, we thank Dr. Adrian Wray and Kaiser Hospital Walnut Creek, Sue Smith and Melissa Stolte and the staff of Interim Home Health Care, and Hospice of the East Bay. Donations in Pat's name may be given to ARF or the Hospice of the East Bay.
A celebration of life will be held at Hull's Chapel, 1139 Saranap Ave., Walnut Creek on Friday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at a later date at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Lafayette.
