Samuel's wife was Eliza Sutley. Their oldest children were born in Pennsylvania. In 1840 they were in Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1850 they were in Hardin County, Ohio, and they arrived in Benton County, Iowa in about 1856.

After Samuel died Eliza was remarried to Jacob Bumgardner in Linn County, June 17, 1872. She died some time after the 1885 census - her burial place is unknown.

Ten children can be identified from censuses: Frances, Levi W., Thomas S., Hezekiah, Lewis G., Robert J., George H., Rejoicey H., Nancy E. (married to Dennison G. Monahan), and Eliza/Ida M.

Son Lewis G. was a Civil War casualty.

Samuel may have been married first to "Rebecca". Can anyone document this?
