Charles A. Gaffney Sr., 94, a resident of Wakefield, MA for over 85 years, died on Saturday, (September 10, 2005) at his granddaughter's home in Kensington, CT.

Born in Warren, MA on August 26, 1911, he was the son of the late Patrick and Katherine (LaBonty) Gaffney. Mr. Gaffney moved from Warren to Wakefield at a young age and was educated in the Wakefield Public School System.

He was retired from Marshalls Warehouse in Woburn and also worked for General Electric in Lynn. Mr. Gaffney was the owner and trainer of several race horses and a member of the Rockingham Park Association and the Horseman's Benevolent Association also of Rockingham Park. For the past 14 years, Mr. Gaffney made his home with his daughter in Plaistow, NH and for the last four years with his granddaughter and her husband in Kensington.

He was a member of St. Florence parish in Wakefield and a life member of the Wakefield Lodge of Elks. Mr. Gaffney was the husband of the late Ann (Rosati) Gaffney. He is survived by his children and their spouses. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. He was predeceased by his daughter, Priscilla Gaffney.
