Cecil H. Brittain, 98, Opelika, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the Bethany House. He was born in Alexandria on Oct. 1, 1909.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie Hardaway Brittain; daughter, Sally Brittain Grill; his parents, Edward and Mary Annie Brittain; and 10 brothers and sisters.
He was a magna cum laude graduate of Berry College, Rome, Ga. He retired from Allis Chalmers Manufacturing Co. in Gadsden. He was a lifelong member of the Hokes Bluff Masonic Lodge and a member of the EAMC Auxiliary. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Opelika.
He is survived by daughters, Mary Ann Pinson (Bill), Burlington, N.C., Brenda Smith (Pete), Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Nanette Banks (Bob), Opelika; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Opelika.
