Effie FLORICE Duncan Akin, age 99, formerly of Carrollton, GA passed away March 8, 2018 in Athens, GA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM EDT at Martin-Hightower Heritage Chapel in Carrollton with the family receiving friends from 1:00 PM until the hour or service. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.

Florice Duncan was born January 29, 1919 in Bowdon Junction, GA to the late Rev. S. B. and Arabella Warren Duncan, the seventh of nine children. She attended both Carrollton and Bowden High Schools graduating from the latter in 1937. On Christmas Eve that same year she married her childhood sweetheart Greshom Akin also of Bowdon Junction. Prior to the tumultuous years of World War II Mrs. Akin worked as a seamstress in Bremen, GA while Mr. Akin studied watch makers training in Atlanta.

After the war the family moved to Carrollton where Mr. and Mrs. Akin owned and operated Akin Time Shop on Rome Street for twenty-five years. Both privately and through their business Mr. and Mrs. Akin were ardent supporters of Carroll County civic programs, especially Carrollton High School and the Trojan teams on which their three sons participated. Mrs. Akin was a member of Harmony Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class where she served as senior teacher for many years as well as a choir vocalist.

Florice was the last surviving member of both her and her husband's family including siblings and their spouses. Preceding her in death were brothers: Amon, Ira, Eugene, and Aubrie Duncan; sisters Bernice and Audie Belle Duncan, Mildred Lee and Alera Harrison. She is survived by three sons and their wives: Elmer and Evelyn Akin of Marietta, GA, Frank and Pamela Akin of Marietta and Dan and Becky Akin of Athens, GA; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey, Bradley, Andrew, Lisa and Russell Akin, Jana Elder, and Whitney Slider; fifteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Having lived a long and fruitful life of almost a century, few of Mrs. Akin's contemporaries remain. The family welcomes all who knew either her, her husband E. G. Akin or their sons Elmer, Frank or Dan to share in the celebration of her life and join us for a reception following the service.

Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton has charge of the arrangements.
