At age 17 Michael enlisted in the Navy and became a submariner on the USS Guavina. When he was honorably discharged from service, Michael became a union pipefitter for Local 120 and retired in 1992. He was a history buff and enjoyed reading and learning. Michael loved his wonderful cats. He had an incredible sense of humor and loved golfing, but was terrible at it..
