Richard Lewis was a son of John Lewis (1720-1802) and Priscilla Brooks (1725-1797). He served in the Revolution.

Richard married around 1779 to Lydia Field (1762-1852), a daughter of William Field, Jr. (bef.1727-1805) his wife Lydia Elswick, (1743-c.1829). Richard and Lydia moved to Indiana around 1809, and were early settlers in Floyd Co.

They had eleven children:

1. Lydia Lewis (1780-1854) married William Erwin (1777-1837), both are buried in Hoosier Prairie Cemetery, Clay County, Illinois.

2. Jonathan Lewis (1783-1817) married Sarah McCaun in Clarke Co., Indiana in 1811.

3. John Lewis (1785-1822) married Martha Jyles in Randolph Co., NC in 1809.

4. William Harrison Lewis (1787-1844) married Mary Julian in Ranolph Co., NC in 1808, married second to Susan Elizabeth Colclasure/Colglazier in Orange Co., Indiana in 1816. Died in Clay County, Illinois.

5. Robert Lewis (1789-1843) married Vaney (Lavinia?) Cude in Randolph Co., NC in 1810. Died in Floyd Co., Indiana.

6. Richard Lewis, Jr. (1791-1833) married Lavinia Wall in Randolph Co., NC in 1809. Died in Floyd Co., Indiana.

7. Priscilla Lewis (1793-1831) married John Scott in Clarke Co., Indiana in 1813. Buried here near her parents.

8. Jane Lewis (1796-1863) married Tilghman Clark in Floyd Co., Indiana in 1820. Buried here near her parents.

9. Lavinia Lewis (1799-1821)

10. Crawford Lewis (1801-1841) married Elizabeth Neeld in Clark Co., Indiana in 1824, died Clay Co., Illinois.

11. David Lewis (1806-1885) married Clarissa W. Thompson (1810-1875). Died in Floyd Co., Indiana. Buried here near his parents.

I am descended from Lydia Field Lewis' brother, Jeremiah Field (c.1764-1830), and would be pleased to correspond with anyone interested in these families.

Thanks to Find A Grave Contributors Claire Ehrhart Abel and to AlertClerk for the links to his parents. There are actually two memorials for each of his parents, but I've linked him to the older memorials. The others are:
