Dorothy Elaine Diers Pendley, 89, went with her Lord Sunday December 15, 2013 in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Mrs. Pendley was born in Blakeley, Minnesota on August 6, 1924 to Frank and Anna Diers. Dorothy was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Minnesota. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1942, and worked in Minneapolis/St. Paul. In 1953 she moved to Phoenix, AZ. Dorothy married Tom Pendley of Oak Creek Canyon, AZ, on October 1, 1955 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Phoenix. She helped Tom manage the family’s apple farm at Slide Rock from ’63-‘85. In lean years, she helped keep the operation afloat by working at Motorola in Phoenix. She completed an Associates Degree while raising 3 children and went to work for the Maricopa Medical center as a Medical records technician until her retirement.

detailed travelogues for the family to enjoy. Dorothy was a faithful letter writer her entire life, culminating with the Christmas Cards sent just a week before her passing. She was an avid card player. Her final years found her beating family and friends regularly at hearts, rummy, and Yahtzee. Dorothy was a quiet gentle soul who made an indelible mark on her children’s hearts.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Tom, her parents, her brothers Alfred Muehlenhardt and Milan Diers as well as many in-laws. She leaves behind her children Kathy Shaw (Ed) of Flagstaff, Karen Harkey (John) of Flagstaff, Tom Pendley III (Kathy) of Phoenix as well as grandchildren Maya Shaw, Brooke Warren, and Orion Pendley, Sister-in-law Nina Lovett of AZ, Nephews Ronald, Eugene, and Lyle Muehlenhardt and Paul Diers of Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, 3430 N. 4th St., in Flagstaff on January 5th at 2:00pm with Pastor Warren Ueckert officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 3430 N. 4th St., Flagstaff, AZ 86004
