Francis LaLonde


Francis "Phil" LaLonde, of Maple Street in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at his home. He was born on August 27, 1913 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946. Worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier from 1937 until 1973. Was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. Was a life member of the VFW Post #3676. Was a lifetime member of the Tally-Ho Hunting Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by three sons, Thomas (Sandy) LaLonde of Sault Ste. Marie, Gerald LaLonde of Sault Ste. Marie, and David (Leanne) LaLonde of Parma, Ohio; three daughters, Jean (Darrell) Dettmann of Marquette, Mary Jackman of Sault Ste. Marie, and Christine Dawson of Sault Ste. Marie; sister Helen LaLonde of Chicago, Illinois; son-in-law Tom Mitchell of Sault Ste. Marie; 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mr. LaLonde was predeceased by his wife, Helen (Rothwell) LaLonde, whom he married on October 26, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; daughters Carole Mitchell and Frances Helen LaLonde; brother Ed LaLonde; sister Margaret LaLonde; and parents, Francis Joseph and Anna (Bowers) LaLonde.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17, from 7-9 p.m., with prayers at 8 p.m. at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home with celebrant Father Ben Paris.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with celebrant Father Ben Paris.

Final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chippewa County, St. Mary's School, or St. Mary's Church.
