Thomas Laumann Feb. 22, 1927 - Jan. 20, 2012 Former Resident Of Hercules After struggling for some time with kidney failure, Tom passed away quietly in his sleep, Friday afternoon. He was 84 years old. Tom was born and raised in Santa Rosa, California, the younger of two children. At the age of seventeen he decided to quit school and go to sea, serving several years in the Merchant Marines. It was on one of these voyages that he met his future brother in law, Art Tavasci, which led him to the love of his life. His final years as a sailor were aboard the schooner California with the San Francisco Bar Pilots. In the early fifties he joined the Piledrivers Union, of which he would be a proud member for the remainder of his life. This career in construction and marine salvage would eventually take him all over the world. After losing Yvonne, his beloved wife of sixty years his desire to live had greatly diminished. Although desperately needed and loved by his family, when his body began to fail he declined further treatment. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Florence Laumann, older sister Phyllis Van Winkle, and tragically his son Timothy Laumann. Surviving him are sons Kurt Laumann of Oakland, Scott Laumann of Green Valley, daughter in law, Lori and grandchildren Tim and Taylor Laumann. He is also survived by daughter Cheri Rasmussen-U'Ren, girlfriend of his late son Tim, and by extension her husband Bob U'Ren of Newcastle, their daughter and son in law Tara and Maurice Blote, son Dusten U'Ren and most recently their granddaughter Quinn Gracelyn Blote. Please join us for a memorial and celebration of this wonderful life at 11:00 o'clock on Thursday, January 26 at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo, CA 94806 In lieu of flowers, Tom would have preferred donations be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
