UPHAM, Kathryn Jeanne (Kay) August 5, 1919 - August 30, 2006 Daughter of Kathryn and France Q. Wilson. Kay spent her youth in Abilene, Kansas collecting bugs and developing a lifelong interest in science, animals and nature. When she was a teen, she moved with her mother to Los Angeles, where she attended Beverly Hills High. She graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in bacteriology, and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. At UCLA, she met and fell for the love of her life, Harvey C. Upham, MD. They were residents of La Habra, California for more than 45 years. Kay was a docent at the Los Angeles Zoo for over 30 years, and was a longtime volunteer for the Girl Scouts. She and her beloved Harv loved to travel- the greater the adventure the better. She particularly loved her journeys over the Silk Road, to Africa, and to China. She was smart, funny, beautiful, gracious, and generous of heart and spirit. Harvey passed away in 2001 after 59 years of marriage. How joyful that they can resume their romance and continue their travels together. She was deeply loved and is greatly missed. Kay is survived by her daughter Margo and sons Chris (Judy) and Derek (Marla), three grandchildren, and a great grandson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.gibboncenter.org or www.lazoo.org. Services will be held Friday, Sept. 15 at 4:00 p.m., St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Whittier.
