James Edward Swink, 87, of Lexington died Nov. 17, 2018, at the Mayflower.

He was born Sept. 10, 1931, in Rockbridge County, a son of James Adam Swink and Helen Montgomery Swink.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Neely Swink, and sister, Mary Frances Arthur.

Jim was a member of the New Monmouth Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and chairman of the cemetery committee and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1990. He has been a member of the Kerrs Creek Ruritan's Club since 1964 and was also a volunteer for the Red Cross.

Surviving are his children, Gary W. Swink (Dianne), David J. Swink (Gail) and Paul Swink (Mary); brother, Joseph Henry Swink (Edna), five grandchildren; Jeremy Swink, Amy Stevens, Adam Swink, Dustin Campbell and Crystal Davis; six great-grandchildren, John Wayne, Kennedy, Charlotte, Dax, Victoria and Wayland; and special friend Janet Sensabaugh.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3 pm. Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Casey Clark and the Rev. Bill Harris. The family will receive friends after the service at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.
