Marietta Coakley Wallace was a native of Horn Lake, Mississippi. She was the organizer and first Matron of the local chapter of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of the Emory Methodist Episcopal Church at Brightwood. She spent most of her life in the District of Columbia and Maryland. She died at age 84 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry P. Alden on Tuesday evening, November 28, 1933 of a paralytic stroke from which she never regained consciousness. She would have been 85 years old on Christmas Eve. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilkins T. Wallace. Survivors included her daughter, Mary Wallace Alden (born 1884); two sons: W.W. Wallace of the District and R.S. Wallace of Ridgewood, New Jersey; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter at 915 Silver Spring Avenue. Interment was at Glenwood Cemetery. Officers of the local chapter of the Order of Eastern Star were honorary pallbearers. Active pallbearers wee her six grandsons.
