Rites at Ghent for Amelia Akin
Funeral services were held Monday of this week for the late Amelia Mae Akin, 72, wife of John Akin and a resident of the Town of Ghent for many years, who died August 10, after a brief illness.
A native of Chatham, Mrs. Akin was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Nichols. She married her husband on October 25, 1900 and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1950.
For many years the Akins lived in Arnolds Mills and 10 years ago moved to a home on the the Nine Mile Run near Ghent.
A kind and loving mother, Mrs. Akin raised ten children. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, John and Edward; seven daughters, Mrs. Ida Wilder, Mrs. Marjorie Van Tasse, Mrs. Blanche Pacanda, Mrs.Lavina Currier, Mrs. Mary Hartman, Mrs. Evelyn Moran, Mrs. Bernice Wilber; 25 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Servicew were held from her late home and from the Ghent Lutheran church with Rev. Walter Bielitz officiating. Interment was in Ghent Union Cemetery.
